My Show-off moment

Review - The Crossfire Series by Sylvia Day

13572249      13596809     15731779

Did I enjoy the Crossfire Series?  Umm… let me think… HELL YES I DID!!  I loved, loved, loved this series!  I devoured these books, lost sleep over these books, forgot to eat because of these books, and forgot what housework was because of these books.  Sylvia Day is my new rock star.  I’m not proud to admit that these books were the first I’ve read of Sylvia’s work.  But… I AM very proud to say that I had the chance to meet her at the RT Convention back in May – what a beautiful woman!  She was so nice, down-to-earth, and I left there feeling like she truly cared about her readers.

This review will cover all three books in The Crossfire Series.  Because if I were to write a review for the first one, then the second and third would, more than likely, be identical because I loved them all equally – devoured them all equally – and obsessed over them all equally.

This series went above and beyond my expectations.  I had read a lot of reviews saying how wonderful it was, so I finally decided to read them and find out for myself.  Man, oh man, were those 5-star reviews right!!  All three books had been on my TBR for the longest time.  I’m still trying to figure out what took so long!

Gideon Cross – Mr. Dark & Dangerous.  I absolutely love this rich, sexy man.  I’m still suffering a book hangover because of him.  He has been added to my favorite book boyfriend list.  And he says he doesn't do romance – psssh.  Yeah, right… that man is full of romance… and passion... and sex… and stamina… and thoughtfulness… and tenderness… and (just the right amount of) roughness.  Eva Tramell – sassy tough girl who doesn't take shit from anyone, and yet, she’ll be a caring friend if you need one.  Of course, they both have their problems, their secrets, and their past that tries to keep them apart.  But they both know – they knew from the first time their eyes met – that they needed to be together.  The love they have for each other is just so… necessary.  And they both knew it.

“I’d rather argue with you, angel, than laugh with anyone else.”

Many, many parts of this series had me fanning myself to cool off and once I was cooled off, I re-read them again.  ;)  And I highlighted them just to be sure I could find them easily the next time.  Yeehaw!

“Romance isn’t in my repertoire, Eva.  But a thousand ways to make you come are.  Let me show you.”

Eloquent comes to mind when I describe Sylvia Day’s writing style – even the passionate, and sometimes naughty *gasp* sex scenes.  It is exactly the kind I enjoy reading.  The way she can make her characters come to life is a true talent.  I felt a connection with each and every one of them – even the secondary ones.  I cared about them, worried about them, got pissed off at them and even wanted to hang out with them.  This series is full of drama, angst, hot & steamy love scenes, and even humor.  It has a great storyline that sucks you in right away and it always keeps you guessing what will happen next.

If you enjoy reading well-written erotic romance, I highly recommend you read this series.  I will definitely be reading more of Sylvia’s books!

Each book in this series gets 5 delicious, sexy, ass-slappin’ hearts from me!  ~L

Review - Irreparably Broken by K. J. Bell

and 1/2!!

Wow, wow, wow! I LOVED THIS BOOK!  Everything about this book had me hooked; the writing style, the characters, the humor, the angst, the romance, the steamy love scenes, just to mention a few.  I first heard about this book from a blog I follow on FB.  I read a lot of great comments about it, so I immediately put it on my TBR.  When my book club chose this book, I was looking forward to seeing if all the good reviews were true.  They were!  After reading it, I can’t say enough good things about it.  I totally devoured this book, staying up way past my bed time.  This novel exceeded my expectations.

I knew I was going to love this book when I first read the word “hoo-hoo”.  That is a common word out of my mouth, and it made me giggle (mature, I know) when I first read it.  K J Bell’s writing style makes this book easy to follow and enjoyable to read.  It moves along at a nice pace and gives you plenty of details (I love details!).  Loved all of the characters – I felt connected with them and immediately cared for them.  The strong chemistry between Tori & Brady made for great moments in the book and made the sex scenes that much hotter.  Whew! *fanning myself*

“Sunshine, you and Jake had sex, but trust me when I tell you, tonight’s going to be your first time.”  His voice is husky and raw as he plants kisses on my neck between words.  “The first time you know what it feels like for someone to own your body.  The first time a real man makes love to you until you scream so loud the heavens hear you.  And the first time you’ll understand exactly what you mean to me.”

Brady is everything you want in a book boyfriend; sexy, romantic, protective, funny, sexy,  loving… did I mention sexy?  And the tissue notes… *sigh*… so sweet – nice touch!   I am overjoyed and doing a happy dance that Tori & Brady’s story continues in book #2 – Irreversible Damage.  Yaaay!

The banter between Tori & Tug – the ‘I would rather’ jokes – had me laughing out loud many times.  Tug is a wonderful character and I am ecstatic that he is getting his own book – YIPPEEEEE!

Irreparably Broken by K. J. Bell comes highly recommended by me.  ~L

Review - The Lonely by Tara Brown

17259298

Who is Tara Brown? I know there are a lot of you out there right now wondering, "What rock did you climb out from under?" But honestly, I had never read anything by her before.
Don't judge! I know her now... and might become a bit stalker-ish.

I have been in what you could call, a book slump lately.. one of those low points were you really can't get past the first couple chapters of a book before you just put it away and never think of it again. That is bad. I even tried reading some of my faves, just to get back into the swing of it. Did. Not.Work.
To tell you the truth I was getting a bit panicky.. like maybe I had lost my book mojo.
So I really didn't have high expectations when I downloaded The Lonely. Not that I doubted Tara's abilities, but in my ability to stop being such a book bitch and just read.
I started reading on the way home from a family vacation. I had a husband and an entire van full of tired and cranky kids..but as soon as I met Emalyn, I was hooked! No more kids needing drinks, no more husband needing directions. It was a total immersion into the life and struggles of Em and her "benefactor".
The author warns you that this book is not for the faint of heart and she is right. I think I may have touched on every emotion possible. I was heartbroken and crying, furious and yelling at my Kindle and blushing like a schoolgirl.. and that was all within a couple pages of each other!  This is a roller coaster ride from the beginning.
Once I started reading, I never put it down. I read until I was finished..(except for the small break I took mid book to download The Lost boy, book two in the series). I loved the way the story moved. Even with the dark cloud of a very sad and sickening back story, she was able to write of love and hope.
So thank you Tara Brown for writing such an interesting story with such amazing characters! You were able to finally pull this book bitch out of her funk! Thanks for helping me remember that there is nothing better than being lost in the world created in the mind of a talented writer.   ~M
